Rick Cycle Shop has been around since 1898, when it was owned by three brothers Frederick, Otto and Thomas. Thomas eventually became the sole owner of the shop until passing it on to his employee Charles Schifferle in 1963. Schifferle then passed the shop on to its current owner who has kept it family-owned and -operated since 1970.
The shop has been in the Buffalo, NY area since it opened in 1898, but made several relocations up and down Main Street befire eventually landing at 55 Allen Street. In the past, Rick Cycle Shop sold many different goods ranging from gas lights to pool tables to women’s rubber overshoes and more, but bicycle sales and services have always been the main activity.
In the 1912 Stockholm Olympics, a Rick Cycle Shop-built bike was ridden by Buffalo native Al Krushel. Krushel helped the American cycling team win a bronze medal in the team time trial event.
